Food reviews for the Champaign/Urbana area

My favorites on campus (not in any particular order):

PIZZA:
Papa Del's: really good deep dish/stuffed pizza.
Papa John's: good basic delivery pizza! remember to shake the garlic sauce!
Gumby's: greasy good, good delivery, open late, deals on tues, try pokey sticks!
One World Pizza: fast, cheap at night, convenient pickup (cheap bread sticks too)
Domino's/Pizza Hut: not bad
**I cant remember the name but the pizza by the slice on Green St. is good too, with specialty pizza slices at cheap prices.

Bubble Tea:
Evo: good milk tea's, good fruit drinks, favs= mango, lychee, pinapple in any comb., secret drinks= fruit green teas. (I recommend the strawberry, mango, or lychee)

CHINESE (there are lots more, but i usually go to these):
Mandarin Wok: hands down the best Chinese food on campus. (crispy tofu, chicken panfried noodles, beef noodle soup.. anythings good really)
Home of Gourmet: cheap and not bad (Grace says "bleh") - but ghettoish
Bo-Bo China: decent, affordable buffet
Evo: good 2,3 item combo. lunch special is worth it. favs= peking pork.
1st Wok: good food, fried dumplings! but off campus, so a little far, but a good treat (Grace's 2nd fave after Mandarin!)

KOREAN:
Woori Jib: best tasting but most money
Dorcas: huge portions, tasty, and affordable

INDIAN:
Bombay Grill: really good meats and sauces. a little pricey, but they do have a lunchtime special for cheap

THAI:
Basil thai: isnt too bad, panang curry is good. food's kinda inconsistent, but it's convenient
Golden Wok: really good pad thai, but it's a hike for most people. (past beckman, near AmKo)

WINGS:
Wingstop: cheap and not bad. better fries than wings
BW3's: goood, but off campus
Hooters: meatiest wings, they have good deals sometimes. view's kinda sketch, though
One World also has decent wings.

Other restaurants:
Geovanti's: chicken fingers, italian beef, and they deliver! supposedly, the owner's really racist, but food's always been good here
Za's: good place for cheap, customized hand made pizza, pasta, sandwiches, salads - very good
Zorba's: gyros :)
Niro's: gyros place as well - 2 locations, one on Green St. and other on University St. the one on University is a lot better.\
Crane Alley: best burgers I've tried. have pool area, a bar, and sitdown area. nice ambience and good onion rings, but a little pricier. also off campus, down Springfield St towards Shnucks.
Rock's: horseshoes are really good, and bar food's pretty good too.
Courier Cafe: nice affordable sitdown restaurant. good clam chowder!
Bread Company: hot roast beef sandwich, pastas are good, and best chocolate fondue! a small classy place to eat on campus, or to have a hot date
L&L: hawaiian bbq - different, but it all tastes good! try the spam musubi.

MEX: (no REALLY great mexican food, but here are the one's i've tried)
Qdoba: convenient, i get the tacos.
La Bamba's: super nachos and horchata drink make it worth visiting
Dos Reales: best Mex food in area, but off campus. sit down restaurant.

*NEW restaurants: (opening Fall 2005 or has opened recently)
Potbellys: famous sub place, try the Works with hot sauce.
Noodles and Co: everyone loves this place.
Starbucks: boo.........

AH! so many more good places:
24 hours: IHOP, Perkins, Merry Ann's (try The Stack).
Subs: Silvermine Subs (personal favorite), Jimmy Johns, Subway.

Grocery Stores:
Schnucks has best meats, veg, fruits, but also a bit more pricey for produce. quality is worth it though. doesn't always have everything other larger places do. closest to campus.
Am-Ko: for Asian foods
Green Onion: new Asian foods store that opened on Neil St. not bad, and has homemade banchans (Korean side dishes) available.
Super Wal-mart/Wal-mart are the cheapest. both off campus, but fun to visit late at night since they're 24 hours.
Meijer: also 24 hours, off campus, next to Beverly Cinemas. (Roger says, "blech I don't like Meijer") - feels like Wal-mart inside. also fun to play at.

Chain Restaurants: TGIF's, Panera, Olive Garden, Home Town Buffet, Red Lobster, etc. these are good to eat at too, but try other Champaign/Urbana locals first.

Monday, August 15, 2005

hello, this is roger here, (tafCrush alum '05) i'm not the right person to update (been in taiwan for 3 months, and missed taf 05), but better to have an update than no update at all. our tafCrush website works on and off, so from the top:

TafCrush
TAFers @ University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign)
An official "Registered Student Organization" at U of I.

What our name means: U of I has a student cheering section called "Orange Crush" 'cause our school color is orange, and during games we "Paint the hall Orange". Since we're Tafer's at U of I, We're TafCrush.

PS: We're not affiliated with "taf crushes" as in "TCs" as the current campers know the term. Once upon a time "taf crushes" were innocent and nothing more than a 5 minute conversation. But anyhow! We're a family here for one another, and not focused on "crushing" on each other.

For some reasons TAFers like to visit U of I A LOT, so it's a TAF
getogether every weekend. Other than that there's so many of us that you see each other, go to class, eat meals, and hang out with TAFers literally everyday. (one of you tafCrushers should make a webpage) Who said TAF land didnt exist?

Oh, and we're not exclusive, we're inclusive   AAA, TASC, ITASA, and many other groups, friends, roommates.. we chill with and share the TAF love.

Lemme try to remember the TafCrushers:
